My name is Jan Chavez. I work for an orthopedic physician owned hospital. We have 17 inpatient beds. We have eight ORS and we do roughly 30 totals in a week and at least 30 arthroscopy cases in a week.
ONE TRAY® was brought in recently. Once our representative came in, he discussed all the possibilities that we could use our ONE TRAY® for. We did not go across the board and do every tray. You can take bits and pieces and make it yours.
That makes it work for your facility.
Before EZ-TRAX™ ONE TRAY®, when we were trying to navigate getting at least 30 totals done in a week, it was a real struggle. Our vendors were having to bring in at least 5 or 6 sets for each case, so that we have enough product to make it through our day. Our limited washer space, our limited sterilizer space creates a whole nother problem that makes it very difficult to turn sets over
I can take any vendors sets. And if I have 5 or 6 cases for him that day, then I can take those sets down and break it into, I can turn my first to my third, I can turn my fourth to sixth case.
However, that goes because I have the efficiency of the EZ-TRAX™ ONE TRAY® system.
To take so many trays from whatever vendor it is, whether it’s Zimmer, Striker or whoever is bringing in their ten, eight, six sets, I can break that down into two, three, four trays in an EZ-TRAX™ ONE TRAY® system, and that has made our efficiency so much better.
All of my vendors have been excited to have EZ-TRAX™ ONE TRAY®s. It has made their lives easier. It has made our processing lives easier.
We are able to reset those trays so quickly and get them processed so quickly because of the efficiency and the layout of those trays.
Our turnover times are less than 20 minutes as far as in between cases. So if a total knee takes an hour to an hour and a half and you only have 20 minutes in between, you are limited on how much time you can get those trays and sets turned over.
I do have a surgeon that has two rooms, and he can do up to six total joints before noon because of the EZ-TRAX™ ONE TRAY® system.
What I love most about the EZ-TRAX™ ONE TRAY® system is that there are no holes, that I can be confident that my tray is sterile, that I can produce a product for my surgeon that I know is safe for their patient.
I really enjoy having the EZ-TRAX™ ONE TRAY® system in here. It has just been simplistic. It is not that difficult. I really enjoy having it here.

We started using ONE TRAY® just as a rapid sterilizer, probably 2014. So the rapid sterilization eliminated all the blue wrap. And then we started looking at equipment, and we started eliminating trays. So typical total knee would be eight or nine trays, and we got down to. about three or four ONE TRAY®s. And then we incorporated EasyTrax to make it a really defined tray system, and we’re down using total knees now with two ONE TRAY®s. Today we did nine total knees. We ran with four total knee sets that were sterilized in ONE TRAY®, and they just get processed all day. In years past, we would bring in three or four loaner sets, and central supply would get crushed the night before with 45 trays to do. So from the hospital side, there’s no loaners, rapid turnover. For our side, we have less equipment, and we have a much more rapid turnover.

As far as cost savings, the industry standard, each tray to get sterilized is anywhere from $70 to $110. So if you just stay with total knees, we’ve eliminated eight trays down to three trays. So that’s $500 per case just in sterilization. As far as the turnover, we used to be able to do three or four cases a day. Today we did nine total knees, again, because we can turn the rooms over much more rapidly with the EZ-TRAX™ and ONE TRAY®.

I have visitors who come and watch some of my surgeries, and I remember they flew all the way from China, and at that time, we had everything set, and because they had to delay the case four or five hours, they had to leave, all because of the holes in the wraps. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t see a reason why anybody would use anything different. It just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s like telling me I have to go to work every day for 40 miles, and I don’t want to use the car. I want to walk. Well, that’s great. Perfect. Walking is healthy, but 40 miles every day is going to be a problem for you.
